Meet Our Pastor: Supt. Dr. Ralph McGlown
Supt. Dr. Ralph McGlown has served as the pastor of Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ (formerly First Church of God in Christ) since 1987, leading the congregation through periods of challenge and growth, culminating in the establishment of their current church home at 2200 Camp Jackson Rd. in Cahokia Heights, IL 62205. He holds a Master’s in Systematic Theology and a Doctorate in Christian Counseling from Glad Tithing Bible College. On September 6, 2019, Dr. Ralph McGlown received the appointment as superintendent of District Six, Illinois Southeast Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ, Inc. by Bishop Otis A. Eanes Sr., prelate.
A Legacy of Faith and Leadership
First Church of God in Christ was established by the late John L. Williams in 1963 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois (Royal Lake #2). After Pastor Williams’ passing, Elder Ralph McGlown was appointed as pastor in 1987. Under Pastor McGlown’s leadership, the congregation experienced tremendous spiritual and physical growth. Despite facing challenges, including the destruction of their temporary church by fire, Pastor McGlown’s unwavering faith guided the church to build a permanent home in 1989. The church thrived at its Mulberry Grove location until 2010.
In 2011, inspired by Psalm 107:20, Pastor McGlown renamed the church Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, reflecting a new chapter in the church’s journey. During this period, he also founded the Temple of Deliverance College of Theology, expanding the church’s ministry. In 2022, the congregation found its current home in Cahokia Heights.
Serving Our Community
Pastor McGlown and the Temple of Deliverance congregation are deeply committed to serving the local community. Elder Delano McGlown plays a significant role in leading many of the church’s outreach initiatives, with Pastor McGlown providing consistent support and guidance. Together, they are actively engaging in efforts to address the needs of the community, demonstrating their faith through acts of service and compassion.
These efforts include regular food drives, often organized by Elder McGlown and Elder Pough, demonstrating the church’s commitment to combating food insecurity. Dr. Patrice Reddick and Dr. Beverly Temple organize enriching field trips for the youth, providing opportunities for learning and growth. First Lady Ella McGlown leads the annual Women’s Conference, empowering and inspiring women within the church and community. The youth ministry, under the guidance of Mother Carrie Head, provides a supportive and nurturing environment for young people to develop their faith.
A Message from Pastor McGlown
“Greeting in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
‘Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth’ (3 John 2).’
As we embark upon another year, it is my prayer that we all be ready for the Lord’s return. The signs of the times leave no doubt that the Lord is soon to return, and I’m afraid there will be some who will not be ready. That is why we must study the word of God so that we won’t be carried away with every wind and doctrine of man. I pray wholeheartedly that we would seek Him while He may be found, and call upon Him while He is near. For truly we are in the last days.”
